Chinese New Year Festive Light Up & Parades

Chinese New Year is one of the biggest celebrations on the event calendar and Singapore is a great place to see it at its most colorful. The Chinatown Light-up ushers in the Lunar New Year with a celebration of all things Chinese, and this is the place to be from mid-January 2018 to soak in the festive shopping spirit. The same festive air can be seen and felt at Singapore’s iconic Marina Bay Floating Platform, where the annual River Hongbao carnival goes on until the arrival of the New Year. Chingay, the annual street parade to mark Chinese New Year, is another exceptional attraction. It is without a doubt one of the most important events in Singapore, taking place from 23 – 24 February 2018. It’s when street floats, clowns, dancers, acrobats, jugglers and many other performers can be seen in celebration. Originating from China, processions were made in honor of the Lunar New Year for two weeks in preparation for the arrival of spring. These events provide substantial insight into the rich Chinese culture that continues to influence Singapore today.
