COPE Center Provide Essential Rehabilitation

Destination Asia Laos are now working with the Cooperative Orthotic and Prosthetic Enterprise (COPE), a partnership with the Government of Laos that aims to ensure people with physical disabilities have local, free access to a quality, nationally-managed rehabilitation services. The center is a local not-for-profit organisation that works closely with the Centre of Medical Rehabilitation (CMR). The Prosthetic and Orthotic unit is locally staffed by well-trained technicians, an international physiotherapy mentor is currently training physiotherapy staff for the physiotherapy unit and an international occupational therapist is now working to develop the pediatric and adult occupational therapy departments.

Visitors are welcome to make donations which are always gratefully received. COPE really heavily on such support – with 85% of their funds coming from private donations, product sales and events. Income raised from these different sources is used to fund the full range of services available and the administration costs associated with providing these important patient services.
