Destination Asia Laos has created a fascinating program that gets going in Luang Prabang with an early morning walk from the hotel down to a pier where we board a local fishing boat to cross the Mekong River. On the other side of the river lies Ban Xieng Maen, the ideal location from which to start a trek through the Chom Phet district. Our rugged path follows the banks of the Mekong, offering a new perspective of Luang Prabang which sits on the now-opposite side of the river. We take time to explore the charming structures of Siew Temple, Chom Phet Temple and Long Kon Temple. As our journey continues through the lush tropical countryside, we arrive at Phou Phi Saf Mountain. A short climb up leads to a selection of beautiful Buddha statues, and of course, an awesome view.
The trek then continues with visits to Phou Pha Keo Temple and Phou Vhi Mountain until we arrive at the picturesque village of Ban Na Kham. Following a well-deserved rest at the village, we leave in the afternoon and follow a winding road along paddy rice fields back to Ban Xieng Man village, where a boat is waiting to take us back to Luang Prabang.
