Hujan Locale Restaurant Opens in Ubud

This new addition to the gastronomy scene in Bali is the brainchild of Will Meryick and shows his return to creating smaller restaurants with meticulously crafted menus. Known in Bali for his fast paced urban restaurants in Mamasan and Sarong, two of the most acclaimed restaurants in Bali, his new venture is located in the cultural centre of Ubud. Hujan Locale as it is named, presents a twist on classical Indonesian cuisine, serving a combination of backstreet dishes with a focus on slow cooking – a fusion of east meets west. Using the best of local ingredients, the kitchen source produce from Balinese farmers to foster stronger ties with the surrounding community. This attention to detail and passion for fresh ingredients even filters down into the drinks menu. Cocktails are muddled using inventive concoctions such as beetroot margaritas or celery and cucumber martinis.

The interior design echoes a distinct French Vietnamese colonial atmosphere with an urban edge. Botanical prints, recycled wood and window shutters give a tropical and trendy vibe. The large upstairs dining room and outside deck are ideal for large groups looking for an exceptional experience in one of Bali’s most highly anticipated restaurants.
