Funeral Rites of HM the Late King Bhumibol and Expected Closures in Bangkok

We would like to take this opportunity to advise you once again of the up and coming funeral rites of HM the late King Bhumibol, which are scheduled to take place in Bangkok next week. Over the next few days the areas in and around the Grand Palace (Rattanakosin Island) and the local areas surrounding the Grand Palace will be closed to ALL traffic in the final preparations for the funeral. During this period 23 – 29 October, we will be unable to conduct tours in around this area due to the road closures. Our destination representatives will be informing all clients arriving into Bangkok over this period in regards to local closures during this time. On the 26 October (day of cremation ceremony) our office will be closed in order that our staff can join in the funeral rites for the late King.

Most shops and department stores will closed in the afternoon with exception of Central World, Emporium, EmQuartier and Siam Paragon all are open as normal on 26 October.

Please see below a list of confirmed closures on 26 October 2017:

  • All 7-Eleven convenience stores, Fresh Mart and True Shops will close from 14:30 till midnight
  • All Central department stores, except CentralWorld and Central Plaza Rama II, will close early at 15:00
  • All Robinson department stores will close early at 15:00
  • The Mall department stores will close early at 15:00
  • HomeWork and Index Living Mall will be closed all day
  • Makro will close early at 15:00
  • The majority of banks will close for the day including branches in shopping malls
  • All post offices and their post shops will close all day
  • Tesco Lotus (all 1,900 stores nationwide) from 14:00
  • Big C will close all stores from 15:00
  • KFC will close their stores at 15:00 except stores in Tesco which will close at 14:00
  • Major Cineplex (all 119 cinemas nationwide)
  • Dream World (Bangkok)
  • Safari World (Bangkok)
  • Siam Niramit (Bangkok)
  • Siam Park City (Bangkok)
  • Dinosaur Planet (Bangkok)
  • Liab Duan Night Market (Bangkok)
  • Bangkok City Library (Ratchadamnoen, Bangkok)
  • Thailand Creative & Design Center (TCDC)
  • Thailand Knowledge Park (CentralWorld, Bangkok)
  • Bangkok Art and Culture Centre
  • Isetan department store (CentralWorld, Bangkok)
  • Blu-O Rhythm & Bowl (Bangkok)
  • Rawai Park (Phuket)
  • Siam Niramit (Phuket)
  • Burapha University’s Eastern Center of Art and Culture (Chonburi)

All of the above will re-open as normal on 27 October. This is only a one day closure.
