Live the Colonial Days of Central Java

Experience Central Java from a new perspective with Destination Asia Indonesia’s new ‘Colonial Relics’ program. This experience combines perfectly with a Kalimantan (Borneo) visit, connecting to the cultural sights in Central Java after arriving at Semarang Airport. Guests explore the resplendent structures of Semarang Old Town, including the oldest church in Central Java. They are then taken on a tour of a coffee plantation to learn about cultivation techniques and the roasting process.

Along with a visit to Borobudur, the largest Buddhist monument in the world – one of the many highlights on this program is the private charter of a historic steam train. We visit the Railway Museum of Ambarawa. The museum is home to some 21 steam locomotives, three of which are still running today. The restored station platform and buildings contain a collection of artefacts including old telegraph equipment, bells and signaling equipment. We then ride one of the trains from Ambarawa to Tuntang.
