Myanmar’s Tourist Locations Remain Perfectly Safe for Traveling to

Destination Asia Myanmar has received emails from several agents asking about the political situation in Myanmar and its effect on travel in the country. While we have been able to address them all, we would like to take this opportunity to provide an update to help you understand our view as travel professionals living and working here.

We understand travellers are sensitive to the situation in Rakhine State that has resulted in thousands of displaced people whom are currently living in camps at the border with Bangladesh. Bilateral discussions between Bangladesh and Myanmar, the recent visit of State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi to the border, and Pope Francis’s visit to Yangon are all signs of hope.

We would like to make it clear that the border area with Bangladesh is not in a location we have ever included or visited in any of our itineraries. It remains perfectly safe to travel in Myanmar as indicated in all our suggested itineraries.

Our stance is that is better to support the thousands of people who make a living from tourism and change mentalities through international exposure, than boycott the country economically which will not improve the political situation and further isolate Myanmar on the international scene.
