Ngong Ping Cable Car Closing for 5 Months in 2017 for Maintenance

HongKong_cable carThe Ngong Ping Cable Car is scheduled to close for a period of five moths for a rope replacement project starting in early January 2017.

Destination Asia Hong Kong will still operate their Lantau Island tours (both private and SIC), however, the cable car will be replaced by coach transfers to the top of Ngong Ping during the closed period.

Established in 2006, the Ngong Ping Cable Car is the longest bi-cable ropeway in Asia, with a total length of 5.7 km in one way.

The rope replacement project is targeted for completion in early June 2017. Destination Asia will provide an update on the project’s start date a few weeks before it commences. To ensure public safety and facilitate the project’s requirements, the Ngong Ping Rescue Trail will not be open to the public during the replacement period.
