Penang Convention Space Given Overhaul

The former Penang International Sports Arena (PISA) is taking shape in its new guise as the Subterranean Penang International Convention and Exhibition Centre (SPICE) – the first of its kind in Asia. The SPICE Arena is already operating as a 3,100 square meter exhibition hall, while several new buildings including a ball room and multi-storey car park are under construction.

Since taking over the management in early 2012, SP Setia Berhad Group has set about to transform the venue into an integrated complex comprising the SPICE Convention Centre, SPICE Arena, SPICE Indoor Stadium, SPICE Retail and F&B, SPICE Aquatic Club and a hotel.

SPICE Convention Centre is the main convention and exhibition hall, spanning 4,500 square meters and is able to accommodate 450 banquet tables, 260 exhibition booths and 8,000 people for theatre style seating. The completion of the main SPICE Convention Centre is expected to be in the third quarter of 2016.
