In preparation for Tokyo Tower’s 60th anniversary in December 2018, the iconic structure will be undergoing renovation of its observation deck starting in September 4th of this year.
The observation deck has a square-shaped layout and just one side of the deck will be closed off at a time. Additionally, actual renovation work will be conducted outside of operation hours as to not disrupt visitation. Construction work for each side is estimated to take around 5 months to complete.
The lights that illuminate the tower and give it its famous orange glow at night are typically turned off at midnight. However, during the renovation period, the tower’s lights will be kept on until dawn so early risers can catch a glimpse of the illuminated tower just before sunrise.
