Tsukiji Fish Market Moving to Toyosu

After a long wait, stalled by the need to ensure full safety of the premises, it is now official: Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike has announced that the wholesale area of historical Tsukiji Fish Market will be moved to the modern facility on Toyosu reclaimed land on 11 October 2018.

The new facility will have limited access to non-workers, but will offer a comprehensive tourism facility and the famed tuna auction will be visible from a designated area (details to be announced). Meanwhile the popular Outer Market (the retail market) and all the sushi restaurants will remain in the current location in Tsukiji.

Destination Asia Japan is currently suspending sales of the popular Tsukiji Market Visit and Sushi Making Lesson for any date after the market relocation until more information is provided about the new Toyosu Facility.
