Tuesday afternoon (30 June), local time, the volcano alert for Mount Hakone on Honshu Island was raised from Level 2 to Level 3 following a minor earthquake in the region. Following the increase in activity, access restrictions to the mountain have been implemented.

At present the roads leading to Gora remain open, however, those leading to Owakudani are currently closed. Other surrounding areas remain unaffected.
