Empowering Women Through Sustainable Crafts

Yuwaddy Center is YWCA (Young Women’s Christian Association) Myanmar’s social enterprise. It is located in one of the most famous colonial buildings in downtown Yangon. The center is a combination of café, handicraft shop and youth community. They provide training and employment for underprivileged women in the post conflict areas of Thandaunggyi, Karen State. Within the center they focus on the production of wholly sustainable products, often made from recycled plastics, such as; women’s necklaces, women’s handbags, laptop cases with traditional pattern longyi fabric, and cushions.

All products are on show and available to buy at the center. They also hold short vocational training days within local communities where women can learn about bakery, floristry, sewing etc. It is an excellent place to stop at during our colonial walking tour in Yangon, allowing clients the chance to support underprivileged women who are predominantly from rural areas. The center is closed on Saturday, Sunday & public holidays.
