Preserving China’s Cultural Traditions with New Hands-On Experiences

In recent years, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism has worked closely with many inheritors of China’s intangible cultural heritage to help preserve its traditions. This year in particular has seen many cultural classes open to the public, offering a hands-on experience with a master of these ancient techniques.

Over 100 types of cultural activities are now available in Beijing, including Peking Opera mask painting, monkey doll making, clay figure sculpting, cloisonné enameling, paper cutting, and even the painting of the interior of snuff bottles.

Destination Asia China looks forward to welcoming international guests back to Beijing, the cultural centre of China, to experience these activities once the situation relating to the COVID-19 pandemic has improved. In the meantime, find some inspiration in our interactive China ebook.
