Qatar Airways Adds Langkawi Service from October 2019

Langkawi continues to open up to the world with Qatar Airways recently opening reservations for its planned service to this spectacular island. The oneWorld carrier will initially extend existing Doha – Penang service to Langkawi starting on 15 October 2019. The flight will run four times weekly operating an Airbus A330-200. From 27 October 2019 the service will be operated by Boeing 787-8, while increasing frequency to five times weekly.

Understanding Langkawi with Destination Asia Malaysia:
For an upscale incentive program, Langkawi is an emerging destination on the pallet of Southeast Asia. It could also be easily built into a two-center combination with a downtown stay in Georgetown, Penang; at the Four Seasons, Ritz-Carlton or St. Regis in Kuala Lumpur or similar properties in Singapore.

Travelers will certainly be rewarded for making the journey to Langkawi. In terms of hotels there is a wide variety of choice. The first boutique hotel to be constructed on the island, called The Datai at Datai Bay recently underwent a comprehensive renovation. This hotel is situated in the primeval forest and consists of both forest rooms as well as beachside villas. This property is about 100 m from the Andaman Sea – it’s a five-star luxury collection hotel which is superb for incentive groups and small corporate meetings.

The Ritz-Carlton and St. Regis also provide services at the upper echelon of luxury. These two, together with the longer established Four Seasons create a troika of high quality [really seven star] accommodation on the island. A further comment on the hotel front is that you do not need a seven star luxury budget to develop [or enjoy] a program to Langkawi. There are fine three, four and five star hotels available for consideration and selection. There are also two exceptional small boutique hotels designed around the use of historic Malay homes by rice fields where guests can be accommodated.

Langkawi has a variety of restaurants which fit well in a dine-around program. Given the high quality of the restaurants at these seven star properties, we have received agreement with the hotels that their restaurants be included in our dine-around options.

Langkawi also boasts exceptional eco-credentials. UNESCO, recognizing the unique aspect of Langkawi created a new category called ‘Global Geopark’. Langkawi UNESCO Global Geopark is located in the far north-western corner of peninsular Malaysia. The mountain complete with tramway and Skybridge, the primeval forest, the Kilim karst formation are all simply exceptional. The nature guides we have available make this kind of experience literally come alive. They love their work and are passionate about sharing their knowledge of the Langkawi Eagle, the hornbill, native monkeys and geological formations.
