Lying on the central coast of Vietnam, just 160km north of Hue, Dong Hoi is the capital city of Quang Binh province and the gateway to Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park. With 12km of white sand beaches, it’s now being recognised as a potential beach holiday destination.
During the Vietnam War, the city suffered greatly due to its strategic location and close proximity to Vietnam’s Demilitarized Zone, dividing North and South Vietnam. But since the end of the war, the Dong Hoi has risen from the ashes to make its comeback.
In 2019, the central province of Quang Binh greeted roughly 5 million tourists, including 250,000 foreign travellers. International hotel chains are also making their mark with Fusion, Radisson, Pullman, Movenpick and Wyndham properties all under construction with plans to open by Q3 and Q4 of 2021. There are also plans to upgrade Dong Hoi Airport to an international airport.
