Earlier this month, protests in Hong Kong led to temporary closure of the airport and scenes of clashes between police and activists. However, the situation now is less volatile, with the most recent rally on 18 August a peaceful one.
Helping stabilize the situation at Hong Kong Airport, the airport authority obtained an interim injunction to stop protests at the airport. The authority announced it would only allow passengers with a valid ticket or boarding pass for a flight scheduled for the next 24 hours into the building. This came into effect on August 14.
Over the course of the past week, we are pleased to report that there has been no affect to Destination Asia operations in Hong Kong.
However, there are further demonstrations planned over the coming week, which we hope remain peaceful. The dates and type of protest are liable to change.
On August 24, protesters are planning to block some roads leading to and from the airport. This is scheduled to start around midday and last until the evening (no exact end time). Guests with Destination Asia at this time have already been contacted with alternative arrangements made.
A number of localised demonstrations are scheduled to take place over the next week at various locations across Hong Kong. These demonstrations are not expected to interrupt normal services.
