Destination Asia Vietnam Announces Multi-day Sustainable Itinerary

Destination Asia Vietnam has created a multi-day itinerary focused on supporting local initiatives while also limiting guests travellers’ carbon footprints. While ensuring the much-loved classic activities are still available to guests, suppliers have been carefully selected and each activity incorporates a different field of sustainability.

Relax with a foot massage in a spa that hires blind and visually impaired therapists, providing opportunities to reach economic independence in a safe and nurturing environment. Plant a mangrove tree close at Gia Luan during a Halong Bay cruise. Visit the Four Paws Bear Sanctuary in Ninh Binh and learn about the local initiative in place to fighting bear farms and animal cruelty issues in Vietnam. Take a trip to a local fishing ship repair yard, followed by a trip to our NGO partner Lifestart Foundation and discover the art of lantern-making in Hoi An. Visit a local farm producing organic peanut butter, or embark on a chocolate tasting tour in Ho Chi Minh to support the local economy and short supply chain.

Restaurant options also include those which offer sustainable initiatives, such as KOTO and Hidden Gem Coffee in Hanoi where 95% of the décor items have been recycled, and Streets International in Hoi An that takes in disadvantaged youth who work as street vendors and whose families can’t afford formal education. Aummee in Hanoi is also a recommended vegetarian option, as well as a variety of restaurants (as well as hotels) using organic products.

To limit carbon emissions, responsible transportation options have also been included, such as bicycles, pedicabs, walking tours, electric bikes, as well as replacing domestic flights with a night train.
