A major leap in Cambodia’s infrastructure took shape in April with the test opening of Bridge 28, the highest bridge in the country. Set for full launch in June, this striking structure is part of the ambitious National Road 10 project, developed in collaboration with China.
National Road 10 runs from Battambang to Koh Kong, connecting Siem Reap to the Cardamom Mountains and the southern coastline, while bypassing traffic-heavy routes near Phnom Penh. The improved access will not only support the movement of essential rice and grain from Cambodia’s “rice bowl” in Battambang, but also make travel to remote, high-end retreats more accessible.
Members of Destination Asia’s Cambodia team recently visited several standout properties along the route, including Canvas and Orchids Retreat on the Tatai River and Cardamom Tented Camp. From here, the road also opens up smoother travel to the coast’s island getaways such as Song Saa Private Island and Royal Sands Resort.
As progress continues, this route promises to reshape the way travellers and traders experience Cambodia, unveiling easier access to both remote natural beauty and the country’s evolving tourism landscape.
