In recent years Destination Asia Malaysia has taken great steps to conduct our business in a socially responsible and ethical manner – in a way that is good for the communities in which we work, the environment, people, and our business. Taking further steps towards achieving these goals, Destination Asia Malaysia recently took part in a sharing session conducted by Clement Liang, a historian and representative of the Penang Tourist Guides Association, to create awareness among team members and work with respective NGOs on the importance of conserving of George Town’s heritage buildings.
Penang is one of Malaysia’s most popular leisure destinations as it offers history, culture and heritage. George Town itself is a living testimony to the multi-cultural heritage and tradition of Asia, and European colonial influences. This multi-cultural tangible and intangible heritage is expressed in its exceptional range of shophouses, townhouses, religious buildings of different faiths, and ethnic quarters. These buildings show many different types and stages of development of the building type, some originating in the Dutch or Portuguese periods.
Destination Asia Malaysia is committed to working closely with the Penang Heritage Trust to grow and create special interest programs for discerning travellers and ensure the conservation of George Town’s heritage buildings.
