Destination Asia Indonesia is proud to introduce a new farm-to-table cooking experience in partnership with the Begawan Foundation in Bali. Designed to immerse guests in sustainable farming and authentic Balinese cuisine, the half-day experience supports local communities and helps preserve the island’s natural heritage.
The journey begins in the fields of Payangan, where guests are guided through regenerative rice farming practices. They learn about the revival of Mansur heritage rice, a once-forgotten crop now thriving again through the use of Bali’s ancient Subak irrigation system. This UNESCO-recognized water-sharing method reflects a philosophy of balance between people, nature, and spirit.
Guests walk through rice fields and organic gardens, gathering fresh vegetables and herbs for the cooking class. Led by the head chef at Begawan Biji Restaurant, the hands-on session highlights traditional techniques and flavors using ingredients just harvested from the farm. The experience ends with a two-course lunch served in a beautifully designed open-air pavilion restaurant overlooking the rice fields.
By participating in this program, guests directly support local farmers and help fund the Foundation’s conservation efforts, including fair trade practices and food security initiatives. Each guest also receives a selection of special recipes to take home, extending the experience beyond Bali.
