We recently sat down with Xavier Chua, Director of Meetings & Events at Destination Asia Singapore, to gain his insight into what makes Singapore such a dynamic destination for events. With close to a decade at Destination Asia and a hands-on role in delivering some of the city’s most high-profile programs, Xavier brings an insider’s perspective on why Singapore continues to exceed client expectations.
What makes Singapore ideal for extraordinary for events?
From an events perspective, it is purpose-built for seamless experiences. You have the reassurance of award-winning venues like Marina Bay Sands and Resorts World Sentosa, but also access to unique spaces like Gardens by the Bay’s Flower Dome or the heritage-rich CHIJMES. For international groups, the ease of operating here is unmatched, with English-speaking services, high service standards, and a city designed around accessibility. We also see great demand for the way Singapore blends innovation with cultural authenticity. You can host a cutting-edge product launch in a tech-enabled ballroom and transition to dinner at a Michelin-starred Peranakan restaurant or a rooftop hawker-style party. It’s also a destination trusted to deliver, having hosted global events like the Singapore Airshow, FinTech Festival, and Formula 1 Grand Prix.

How does Singapore’s infrastructure impact events?
Clients consistently tell us the logistical ease is a game-changer. You can move from the airport to your hotel in under 30 minutes, with no language barriers and minimal traffic disruption. The public transport is efficient, but for groups we can also coordinate private charters with zero hassle. The compact size of the city allows for multi-venue events in one day; you could host a conference in the morning, a CSR activity in the afternoon, and a gala dinner by the waterfront in the evening without long transfers.
How can groups connect with local communities in Singapore?
Singapore has fascinating micro-communities and heritage enclaves that we love integrating into programs. For instance, we design workshops around the Peranakan community where guests can try traditional beadwork or learn about Nonya cuisine from local experts. On the CSR side, we organize activities where guests can give back in hands-on ways, assembling care packs, supporting local food banks, or participating in sustainability drives like beach clean-ups. Everything is curated with purpose, ensuring the group’s contribution has a genuine impact.

What current trends are you seeing in Singapore?
Personalisation is huge. Clients want more than just a standard agenda; they want their program to reflect their brand culture and attendee interests. We’re also seeing a shift towards low-impact events, from incorporating plant-based menus to selecting green-certified venues.
Hybrid formats are still strong for certain markets, but the emphasis is definitely back on immersive in-person experiences. Wellness is becoming a key element too, we’ve arranged yoga sessions overlooking Marina Bay and forest walks on Sentosa as part of corporate programs. Being based here allows us to constantly evolve ideas through close relationships with venues and suppliers, and we make sure to stay updated through industry events, reports, networking, and partner updates to ensure every program stays fresh and relevant.
What exclusive events does Destination Asia Singapore offer?
Our team is constantly unlocking doors to places that aren’t available to the general public. Think private after-hours cocktails at the National Gallery rooftop, yacht parties with curated local dining, or behind-the-scenes access to traditional tea houses in Chinatown. We also design progressive events, where groups move between contrasting venues. We might start at a colonial black-and-white house for lunch, a rooftop urban farm for cocktails, and a neon-lit supper club to close the evening. Clients work with us because we don’t deliver off-the-shelf itineraries, we craft something truly Singaporean and completely unique to their event.
