The brief:
Deliver an island experience off Phuket for 200 delegates with an onward trip to Bangkok for 60 VIPs.
This took place before Covid precautions were completely relaxed, so it was an event where we really had to think on our feet. Several suppliers we would have normally relied on were either still closed or had shuttered their business altogether. Worse, management of the private island we originally selected and confirmed for the stay changed their mind and informed us they are no longer accepting any groups. Back to the drawing board!
After a diligent search, we found another appropriate base, a private island with sufficient accommodation, 15 minutes from Phuket by boat. The owner was charming and willing but had never served large groups in the past, so we had to work meticulously alongside her to ensure the services were up to standard in every aspect, from food and beverages, setup, and logistics to venue preparation. With the clock counting down and the anxious client making three advance inspections in 10 months in the pre-planning stage, we cannot deny this was an intense experience. But was it a success? Did the party enjoy it? Here’s what the client said:
