Khmer Ceramics fires up ancient craft in Siem Reap

Khmer Ceramics is a well-established centre in Siem Reap, dedicated to nurturing the rich history of an Indigenous Cambodian craft that dates back over a thousand years. The people here are more than happy to welcome visitors for an engaging, family-friendly experience that blends culture, creativity, and hands-on fun.

Ideal for participants of all ages and skill levels with no experience necessary, the artisans begin the two-hour class with a brief introduction to the craft, followed by a demonstration of the basic techniques, including shaping and moulding clay on a potter’s wheel. Participants are encouraged to get creative as they craft their own unique piece, which could be a small bowl, a cup, or a decorative item. The friendly, step-by-step guidance ensures that even beginners feel confident in their ability to create something beautiful.

At the end of the session, participants can add final touches to their creation. The pieces then need to be kiln-fired and glazed, which typically takes 24 hours, but local deliveries can be arranged when they’re ready.

We’ve noticed that children especially enjoy this absorbing and sometimes messy experience, so it’s ideal for families and makes for a great team-building event too.
