Enlightenment comes to Chiang Mai this November

The ancient city of Chiang Mai, with its rich history and serene temples, is a destination that captivates travelers year-round. But on 5-6 November, it transforms into something truly magical during the Yi Peng Lantern Festival. In this breathtaking celebration, thousands of glowing khom loy lanterns are lit and sent skyward, illuminating the night and symbolizing the end of bad luck and the arrival of better days.

This event coincides with Loy Krathong, Thailand’s nationwide festival of lights. During this enchanting evening, people gather to release candlelit krathongs onto the water, each carrying prayers for good fortune. Unlike the lively revelry of the Songkran water festival, Loy Krathong and Yi Peng create a quiet, spiritual atmosphere of reflection and renewal.

For safety reasons, Chiang Mai authorities have restricted khom loy lantern releases in the city center, encouraging visitors to celebrate Yi Peng at official events such as the Chiang Mai CAD Khomloy Sky Lantern Festival. While more controlled, the sight of thousands of lanterns rising into the night remains truly unforgettable.

With demand surging, we’ve secured exclusive availability at Anantara Chiang Mai and Shangri-La Chiang Mai until mid-May. These packages include festival access tickets and are available for bookings made before mid-May 2025.
