Kyoto, renowned for its historical landmarks, is addressing the growing number of tourists with an innovative solution. City authorities have introduced a new express bus service designed to enhance the tourist experience while also making daily commutes more comfortable for residents.
Running at weekends, national holidays and during peak vacation periods, the well designed routes connect major tourist attractions such as the Kiyomizu-dera Temple, Ginkaku-ji Temple, and the famed Gion district. The fare is slightly higher than regular services but still very affordable at ¥500 for adults and ¥250 for children. Better still, visitors who buy a combined one-day subway and bus pass can use these on the new express service.
Rolled out on 1 June with a new fleet of comfortable, modern vehicles, the express buses offer a fast, comfortable ride, with trips from Kyoto Station to Gojo-zaka taking just 10 minutes, five minutes quicker than regular buses.
