Weaving with a difference in Siem Reap

Samatoa Lotus Textiles is a workshop dedicated to creating sustainable, eco-friendly fabric products from a rare textile made from lotus flower stems, harvested and processed by local artisans using age-old techniques. The workshop not only promotes sustainable and ethical production practices but also provides local employment opportunities, particularly for women.

Soft, light, breathable and antibacterial, the material has no chemicals or toxic products, making it arguably the most sustainable fabric in the world. Workshop visitors get the opportunity to witness the entire, enthralling production process, from harvesting the stems to spinning, weaving and dyeing the fabric. The friendly artisans at the workshop are more than happy to demonstrate and explain their skills. Visitors can also browse and buy from a wide range of beautifully crafted garments, including scarves, shawls and more, as well as home decor items such as table runners and cushion covers. This is a unique experience with a strong theme of social responsibility, ideal for the growing number of travellers who want alternatives to the usual holiday choices.
