Venturing to the Pearaing Biodiversity Conservation Center & Surrounding Local Communities

Just 45 minutes from Siem Reap town, the 208-hectare Pearaing Conservation area is home to 175 rare species of birds including Milky Storks, Spot-billed Pelicans, Greater Adjutants, and many others. Once a prime hunting ground, the area has been developed into a sanctuary thanks to the initiative and dedication of the local community.

The Pearaing Bird Sanctuary is a year-round avian habitat where visitors can view and experience a rich variety of wild water-bird species in their natural surroundings. Residents in the nearby villages have been educated on the importance of wildlife and now act as guides and rangers to protect birds from poachers.

Destination Asia Cambodia’s new half-day responsible tour presents the perfect opportunity to learn more about the different species of birds and how the community works preserve the sanctuary.
