Orchard Road Lights Up for “Christmas in Bloom”

Themed ‘Christmas in Bloom’, this year’s iteration of the annual Orchard Road Christmas light-up sees the shopping street set aglow with about 68km of fairy lights and oversized floral decorations, with some parts dressed in bold neon lights. With no shortage of Instagram-worthy sights and a myriad of shopping and restaurant choices, there’s no better place to embrace the season of joy in Singapore than Orchard Road

Symbolising hope and resilience as businesses along Singapore’s most popular shopping strip yearn for a return to normalcy, a giant outdoor video projection that takes up an entire wall of the Mandarin Orchard hotel – together with augmented reality fireworks shoppers can see through a mobile app – is the highlight of this year’s annual Orchard Road Christmas light-up. The giant outdoor projection will be screened until 2 January with a 10-minute 3D show from 8pm to 10.30pm daily. By downloading the mobile application PopAR and pointing it at the projection, viewers can enjoy augmented reality effects.

While, like last year, there will be no street activities and performances, there will be speakers put up on the stretch between ION Orchard and Ngee Ann City playing popular Christmas carols. Throughout December, shoppers walking along the stretch can hear the tunes daily between 5pm and 10.30pm, which will be extended to 12.30am for Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. A virtual tour of the shopping street, which is currently live and will run through 2 January 2022, also offers 360-degree views and features performances by local buskers.
