Arranging dinner for 950 friends in Singapore

The Brief

An internationally known client was taking a world cruise on the legendary Queen Mary 2. They asked Destination Asia Events to arrange a one-off occasion for when the ship docked in Singapore, as a way of thanking and rewarding 950 long-time friends and business associates for their valued relationships.

The brief was demanding yet crystal clear in its simplicity: Centred around a sumptuous gala dinner, it had to be simply unforgettable in every single detail.

Event Highlights

Adorned with countless orchids and the warm red glow of Chinese lanterns, one of the ship’s impressive  ballrooms was transformed into a magical enclave, redolent of Singapore in bygone days. Upon entry, guests were greeted by the Kompang Boys drum ensemble.

Needless to say, the menu and presentation were of the highest possible order. They were accompanied by a series of games that evoked memories of childhood nostalgia, including old favourites like pick-up sticks, spinning tops, five stones and the timeless Chinese game of chapteh.

Winners were awarded with exquisite vintage candles, but nobody left empty handed, as every guest was presented with a beautiful, traditional fan with their name inscribed on it by a noted calligrapher. Dinner was followed by superb entertainment, featuring a mesmerising Chinese silk dance, a high-energy Bhangra performance and a live band playing 70s and 80s classics.

The Destination Asia Difference

As many of the guests were aged 60 to 80, ensuring their safety and comfort was a priority. We responded by implementing a carefully considered logistics plan with accessibility at its core. Suitable electric buggies were arranged, with additional wheelchairs on hand for support whenever needed. Extra manpower was deployed to gently usher and guide the guests. We also secured optimal coach parking at the Marina Bay Cruise Centre to minimise waits and walking distances.

In addition, our team proposed practical, guest-centric ideas to ease arrival and departure flows. This combination of careful coordination and proactive planning ensured all guests were transferred seamlessly and smoothly.
