Hong Kong’s International Arts Carnival Goes Digital

One of the biggest cultural events in Hong Kong’s calendar, the annual International Arts Carnival is currently running from 9 July until 15 August and features a mixture of online events and in-person stage shows. The Carnival is designed specifically with families in mind, with the aim of exposing children to the world of the arts, so there is a variety of family-friendly programming.

This year, the carnival has teamed up with local groups to present a variety of stage programmes including musicals, puppetry, drama, theatre for the young, experiential theatre, a multimedia concert and more. Films from around the world for children and youths are also being screened. Other extension activities include a talk, exhibitions and workshops.

The Carnival normally attracts world-class performing arts groups from across the globe, however, due to the continuing restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic, international participation this year will be much curtailed.

As of 3 August, 36.20% of Hong Kong’s population has been fully vaccinated. To stay up-to-date with Hong Kong’s vaccination rollout, quarantine times, key dates to reopening, and international flight status on our dedicated Travel Recovery site.
