Now on display at the Hong Kong Palace Museum, Treasures from Egyptian Museums brings together the most comprehensive collection of Egyptian artefacts ever shown in the territory. Running until August, the exhibition offers a rare opportunity to encounter some of the world’s most significant ancient treasures without travelling beyond Hong Kong.
Comprising more than 250 artefacts, the exhibition traces the grandeur and artistry of one of history’s most influential civilisations. Highlights range from monumental statues of pharaohs and gods to finely crafted gold jewellery, imposing coffins and mysterious animal mummies. Drawn from seven leading institutions across Egypt, including Cairo’s Egyptian Museum and the Luxor Museum, alongside recent discoveries from Saqqara, many of these pieces are appearing in Hong Kong for the first time, with several rarely exhibited outside Egypt.
With so much to explore, deciding where to begin can feel daunting. To guide visitors, leading Egyptologists have singled out several must-see works, including the commanding quartzite statue of Tutankhamun, a striking group of seven cat mummies, and the revealing statue of two men brewing beer, offering a rare glimpse into the rituals and everyday life of ancient Egypt.
