New Socially Responsible Initiative in Tibet

Destination Asia China are now working closely with the Help the Blind School in Tibet, enabling travelers to gain a better understanding of the extent of blindness in the Tibet Autonomous Region. According to official statistics, 30,000 of the 2.5 million inhabitants within the region are blind or highly visually impaired.

The Help the Blind School was founded by a blind woman and her husband in 1998, evolving from a training and rehabilitation center into a preparatory school for blind children. Their goal has always been to empower these children by teaching them how to read braille, writing, and math – as well as practical skills such as traditional handicraft making.  Guests have the opportunity to take a tour of the school and join a class. While attending one of the classes it will be possible to meet some of the inspiring children and share your time with them.
