In October 2021, Destination Asia Thailand launched the ‘A Local Touch of Samui‘ excursion, during which guests visit a local fisherman village to discover how its residents live away from the main tourist areas before visiting the crab bank set up by the villagers to make their living more sustainable for the future. Here, berried female blue crabs are caught from the sea and nursed until spawned.
At the end of the day, guests will have a chance to contribute to the village’s initiative and help release thousands of baby crabs back into the sea. Not only will this experience allow for a respectful and meaningful interaction with the local community on Koh Samui, but part of the cost of this tour will also directly support the setting up of future crab banks.
