Routine Travel Restrictions in China

We would like to inform you that the Chinese government has issued the following notice, which will affect travel to, from and within the country as well as some sightseeing itineraries over the dates mentioned below.

In accordance with the Civil Aviation Administration of China, the following twelve airports will experience delays due to military exercises between August 1 and August 15:

Shanghai Hongqiao, Shanghai Pudong, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Hefei, Jinan, Wuxi, NIngbo, Qingdao, Lianyungang, Zhengzhou and Wuhan.

In addition, martial law will be in place in Beijing during the following dates: August 22-23 and September 2-3.

During these four days, Tiananmen Square and the Wangfujing area will be restricted with limited to no access. Within this area, hotels and restaurants will be closed and sightseeing tours venturing into these areas of the city will not be possible.

On September 3 from 09:30am to 12:30pm, Beijing Capital International Airport will be closed. Flights with arrival or departure times falling between those three hours will be reorganized and the new flight details will be shared as soon as they are made available.

Your designated Destination Asia account managers are aware of the situation and will contact you shortly regarding any necessary changes to your guests’ itineraries. We are closely monitoring the situation and will provide further updates as they become available. We would like to stress that all of these activities and closures are routine, and while they present an inconvenience, they do not represent any cause for alarm with regards to safety.
