Singapore’s Orchard Road lights up for Christmas

The people of Singapore do everything they can to make every Christmas a cracker, with the preparations starting and the decorations sparkling from mid-November onwards, all the way up to the holiday itself. A simple stroll around the main centres and attractions is bound to lift anyone’s festive spirit.

Take a trip down Orchard Road, for instance, and you’ll be amazed by the massive Christmas light-up, inaugurated by President Tharman Shanmugaratnam on 16 November. You can also expect the return of not one, not two, but three Great Christmas Villages, opening from 7 December, with lots of shopping, food trucks and pop-up bars, and giant outdoor projection on the dual facades of the Mandarin Gallery. Speakers have been set up all along Orchard Road, broadcasting everyone’s favourite Christmas tunes and carols. There’s also a giant countdown clock to mark the start of Christmas and New Year, and a massive street party on Christmas Eve.

Christmas Wonderland also returns to Gardens by the Bay for its tenth edition. Here you’ll find six festive zones with amazing new displays including the magical Garden Rhapsody light and sound show, carnival games, a double-storey carousel – and they’ve even found a way to make it snow in the tropics!
