Thailand welcomes back its famous elephants

Imagine wandering the historic streets of Bangkok and discovering life-sized elephants painted in dazzling colors around every corner. Once a common sight led by mahouts, elephants were removed from the city streets due to concerns about their welfare. Today, their presence has been brilliantly re-imagined as an outdoor art exhibition, with sculptures created by artists from around the world.

The Elephant Parade exhibition takes place in Talad Noi and Songwat Road, charming riverside neighborhoods filled with historic buildings, hidden alleys, and the warm friendliness of local residents. From 15 November to 21 February, over 55 vibrant elephant sculptures can be found throughout the streets, each one a unique creation that invites visitors to pause, explore, and take photographs.

Beyond the visual spectacle, the exhibition raises awareness about the importance of Asian elephant conservation, with 20% of net profits going directly to welfare and conservation projects for elephants worldwide.

Guests booking Destination Asia Thailand’s walking tour, The Chinese Tales of Talad Noi, during the exhibition period can enjoy the added bonus of seeing these magnificent sculptures up close. Visitors can soak up the lively local atmosphere, marvel at the creativity of the artwork, and experience the charm and vibrancy of one of Bangkok’s most unique neighborhoods.
