Understanding the Importance of Supporting Local Producers

Back in April 2019, Tambatuon ecovillage in Kota Belud and the Malaysia Agroecology Society for Sustainable Resource Intensification started growing and cultivating local produce, such as organic yam rice and vegetables. Through this initiative, the community was able to supplement their income through the sale of their produce.

Inspired by their efforts, and as Malaysia underwent its second Movement Control Order in early 2021, Destination Asia Malaysia team members began growing their own vegetables in their backyards and balconies. Through their efforts, team members can enjoy the fruits of their labour and, at the same time, better understand the importance of supporting local businesses during this pandemic.
