The first phase of the Langkawi International Airport 21.6M USD expansion project started in early November with the first phase involving enlarging the parking area and was due for completion by end of the month.

The second phase which includes enlarging the arrival hall, toilets, commercial terminal, prayer rooms and driveway (for vehicles to go into the main terminal building) will begin mid-November 2017 and is due for completion by November 2018.  Upon completion, Langkawi International Airport will  have facilities to handle an increase in capacity from 1.5 million to five million passengers annually.
