Berjaya Air’s first charter flight from Penang International Airport to Redang Island took off on 4 July, with the airline planning to offer the route on selected Fridays and Sundays, making the destination an ideal, easy choice for weekend getaways.
One of the largest islands off the east coast of peninsular Malaysia, Redang Island is a classic, unspoilt tropical paradise with fine white sand and pristine turquoise waters. Up to now, access to the island has been somewhat tricky and time consuming, involving long drives and stopovers. But the new service has eliminated that, as travellers from Penang are whisked to the island in as little as an hour.
Upon arrival, visitors step into a designated marine sanctuary park, ideal for swimming and snorkeling. Colourful reef fish can be seen just off the beach, creating excellent conditions for relaxed exploration. While Redang is known for its tranquil setting rather than nightlife, there is a good variety of dining and drinking options available in the evenings. Accommodation ranges from comfortable local stays to internationally recognised resorts, providing flexibility for different types of travellers.
