New visitor measures are being introduced at Komodo National Park as part of a strengthened commitment to conservation. Home to the endangered Komodo dragon and some of Indonesia’s most fragile marine ecosystems, the park has seen steadily rising visitor numbers in recent years. The updated regulations aim to protect wildlife habitats better, manage foot traffic on sensitive sites, and ensure a more sustainable long-term visitor experience.
Visitors should familiarise themselves with the revised entry requirements before planning travel. Effective from April, the key changes include:
- Daily visitor cap: A maximum of 1,000 visitors per day across the park.
- Timed access to Padar Island: To reduce congestion at peak hours, access to Padar Island will now operate on a scheduled entry system. Visitors will be assigned one of three designated time windows based on their boat departure time. Please note that timings may be subject to short-notice adjustments depending on weather and operational conditions. The current access windows are:
- 05:00 – 08:00 am
- 08:00 – 11:00 am
- 15:00 – 18:00 pm
- Mandatory advance registration: To facilitate ticket purchase and guarantee availability, guests’ passport details are required for our team to secure the booking. All visitors must complete digital registration, and tickets must be purchased online at least one day prior to visiting the park.
- Entrance fees: Currently approximately USD 30 per person per day, with adjustments expected later this year.
With careful planning, visitors can still enjoy the same breathtaking encounters, now within a more carefully protected setting.
