The Melaka Historic City Council has announced an increase in the Melaka Heritage Tax for hotel guests, effective from 1 January 2025. The additional revenue from the tax increase will be used to support enhancements to the region’s tourism infrastructure, ensuring a better experience for visitors while preserving Melaka’s unique heritage.
The new charges, determined by the Melaca Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, will be based on individual hotels’ star ratings. Guests staying in hotels rated below three stars will see the tax increase from RM2.00 to RM3.00 per room per night. For three-star and four-star establishments, the tax will rise from RM2.00 to RM4.00 per room per night, while five-star properties will have a new rate of RM5.00 per room per night, up from RM2.00.
Guests will be required to pay the updated tax directly to the hotel upon check-in, for all existing and new bookings from this date.
