A voyage to Malaysia’s amazing wetlands

The gorgeous Kinabatangan Wetlands Resort is nestled away in the Lower Kinabatangan-Sagama Wetlands, the first to be selected as RAMSAR-designated wetlands conservation area.

To reach it, guests travel by sea to the eastern coast of Borneo, cruising past local fishing villages and dense mangrove vegetation, before arriving at the hidden forest sanctuary of the resort. The enchanting timber-built hideaway is tucked between nipah palms and mangrove trees. The accommodation consists of simply furnished but comfortable villas, also surrounded by greenery.

Staying at the resort gives guests the chance to see an array of wildlife that encompasses orangutans, langurs and hornbill, as well as an exotic, extravagant mix of tropical plant life. Arranged activities include day and night river cruises; jungle walks and visits to meet members of the local Orang Sungai, an ancient people that has been indigenous to the region for many centuries.
