Camping Adventures on the Kulan Mountains

For those who want to recapture the spirit of adventure, the team in Cambodia have put together an option in the Kulan mountain range that will help them do just that.

The journeys begin in Siem Reap where guests are picked up and taken for a 90-minute drive to the mountains. Along the way there’s a stop at a popular and very instagrammable viewpoint on the mountain. From there it’s time to visit the river of 1,000 Lingas, an archaeologically unique site dating back to pre-Angkor times. Guests are encouraged to take the time to slow down, relax and fully appreciate this remote, unforgettably serene location. A local, picnic style lunch is served by the river to aid that relaxation.

Then it’s time to set up camp for the night in a tranquil, shady spot. Those who want to be truly adventurous can do the setting up themselves; for those who simply want to chill out, the rangers will happily do it for them, and have it ready and waiting for their arrival. The guides prepare a delicious barbecue to be enjoyed as the sun goes down, then it’s time to light a campfire and toast some marshmallows before calling it a night.

Waking up in the morning is a wonderful experience, listening to the sounds of the jungle and savouring the cool of the day. The guides prepare excellent fresh coffee and a light, cooked breakfast with an array of different items to choose from. At around 8:30 it’s time to break camp and set out on a 6km trek through the lush jungle. This leg of the journey ends at the magnificently inviting Kulen Waterfall, where guests will welcome the chance to take a relaxing, refreshing dip before a taste of Cambodia’s cuisine with lunch in a gazebo, locally known as a sala, alongside the waterfall. When lunch is finished and guests are ready to go, assuming they can tear themselves away, they’re driven back to Siem Reap.
