Celebrating Ramadan Virtually in Singapore in 2021

Typically a bright and exciting season for Muslims and non-Muslims alike, many Ramadan events in Singapore have been scaled back this year as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Locals are still able to enjoy the colourful light displays along Geylang Road and Sims Avenue, however, the lively bazaars that are held annually throughout the city cannot be visited in person.

Instead, Geylang Serai, one of Singapore’s oldest Malay settlements, will be taking its famous bazaar online from 9 April to 13 May. While Singapore residents will be able to order food, guests located all over the world can participate in activities and watch live art exhibitions all from the comfort of your own home.

A new ‘localhost walk’ in Geylang Serai will also be presented by Suhaimi Yusoff. With 21 years’ experience in the media, Suhaimi is a household name both in the Malay and mainstream channels in Singapore. A versatile and effectively bilingual presenter, he is also much sought after when it comes to hosting corporate events. During the segment, Suhaimi will also be sharing insights of Malay food and culture in Singapore, as well as his own experiences growing up in Singapore and witnessing the many changes in Geylang Serai.
