Japan’s HOT New Hotels in the Spotlight

Some exceptional new hotels are opening in Japan that simply can’t be missed. Here we will give you the lowdown on these wonderful places to stay, that has also made it into TRAVEL+LEISURE, the Best New Hotels in the World list. We are spreading details of this list of hotels over two issues of Asia Talk – so get ready for the first two now, these are The Ritz Carlton, Nikko and Roku Kyoto.

The Ritz Carlton, Nikko is situated by Chuzenjiko Lake and is only a short distance from the UNESCO World heritage Nikko Toshogu shrine. Guests can enjoy a relaxing bath with views down to and across the lake. The indoor and outdoor hot-spring baths are also a must-try during any stay. With a wide variety of both indulgent and active pursuits on offer here, everyone from children to adults is sure to enjoy a memorable stay.

Roku Kyoto, the first LXR in the Asia-Pacific region opened in 2021. It is located in Northern Kyoto close to Kinkakuji temple where visitors can immerse themselves in some of the world’s most spectacular natural surroundings. Roku actually has two meanings, ‘foot of a mountain’ and ‘traditional craft of making handmade Japanese paper’, both of which are entwined with the property. Guests can also make use of a thermal pool with views out to Kitayama cedar trees that change colour through the seasons.
