Michael Mou, General Manager of Destination Asia Hong Kong, recently attended an enriching familiarisation trip to Macau, hosted by the Macao Tourism Board. The purpose of the trip was to explore the potential that Macau can offer as a complement to a Hong Kong-based stay.
Located on the Chinese mainland and just a short hop from Hong Kong, Macau has enjoyed a renaissance lately, with an impressive lineup of brand-new hotels. The group called in at the New Central Hotel, Lisboeta L’Occitane and the Lisboeta Grand Palace Hotel, which all offer uniquely designed themed rooms and some truly outstanding new restaurants and bars.
Eager to explore new sightseeing routes that promise intriguing ways to attract and engage tourists, attendees visited the amazing Grand Prix Museum, the lavish, all-new M8 mall, and cultural centre, and the historic Rua dos Ervanarios before hopping onboard an open-top busy for an enchanting evening tour complete with breathtaking city views.
Recognising the increasing desire for experiences beyond the well-known tourist trails, the itinerary also featured explorations of the quaint Coloane and Taipa villages, with their charming local shops, tantalising street food specialties and glimpses of the vast, rich heritage that typifies Macau.
This trip beautifully showcased why Macau’s unique blend of modern attractions, rich heritage, and authentic experiences make it the perfect addition to any Hong Kong itinerary.
