Michelin-starred chef opens new Indonesian venue

Syrco Bakker is a fast rising culinary hotshot, with two Michelin stars to his name as head chef of Pure C, a restaurant on the Netherlands-Belgium border. Now he has gone back to his Dutch-Indonesian roots to open his latest venture, Syrco BASÈ, nestled in the outskirts of Ubud. It opened its doors in January and, for lovers of once-in-a-lifetime gourmet experiences, this is a simply unmissable stop.

Bali is, of course, famous for its wonderful food and the centrepiece of Syrco BASÈ is a 16-course tasting menu which perfectly reflects its vibrant culinary traditions.  This experience can host a maximum of 14 guests, who will be enthralled and enraptured as course after delicious course is presented, meticulously prepared in front of them by the chefs, with Syrco himself sometimes taking a turn at the stove. Each course uses the region’s finest ingredients, sourced sustainably and ethically from local producers, in an intimate setting overlooking a softly lit garden.

As well as a restaurant there’s an upstairs lounge and bar, offering exceptional bites and drinks from talented mixologists. There’s also a small shop where selected works from local artisans are showcased.

Syrco BASÈ welcomes restaurant guests from Wednesday to Saturday from 18:00 pm to midnight and hosts one chef’s table experience each night starting between 6:00 – 6:30 pm.
