Three new explorations coming to West Papua

Aqua Expeditions is proud to announce the launch of three new journeys to the uncharted hinterlands of West Papua exclusively in November 2025. These one-of-a-kind voyages promise a unique fusion of culture, marine wonder, and natural beauty.

The initial itinerary showcases the Spice Islands and West Papua. Guests will discover the colonial heritage of the Banda Islands and explore the Koon group of islands, famous for outstanding snorkelling and diving, sometimes in the company of hammerhead and leopard sharks. They’ll also have the chance to explore mangrove bays, mesmerising waterfalls, pristine beaches, and, most uniquely, to swim with whale sharks.

The second itinerary departs from Kaimana featuring stunning seascapes, vibrant coral reefs and more thrilling whale shark encounters. It also features a sensitively handled visit to the largely untouched Asmat region, home to one of Indonesia’s most mysterious indigenous communities.

Finally, there’s a comprehensive 12-day adventure that combines the highlights of West Papua and Raja Ampat. It kicks off with exciting whale shark encounters, followed by an exploration of the Asmat region with visits to the namesake tribe’s remote villages, excursions to breathtaking waterfalls, as well as top-notch snorkelling and diving at prime marine biodiversity sites. There’s a strong likelihood that guests will also get the chance to swim with the legendary stingless moon jellyfish in Raja Ampat.
