Award-winning coral monitoring project in Koh Lanta

The managers of Pimalai Resort & Spa on Koh Lanta, a luxurious island destination near Phuket and Krabi, have received an award from the National Park authorities, in recognition of their dedication to protecting the natural beauty of the Mu Koh Lanta National Marine Park.

With leading environmental scientist Anuar Abdullah, the team has been diligently monitoring the health of the area’s precious coral reefs. Their latest monitoring exercise at Koh Rok and Koh Haa took place from 6th to 15th October and they were thrilled to report the coral ecosystems in both areas are in excellent health, so we can all  continue to enjoy the vibrant marine life with no need for intervention.

Alongside this, to preserve the exquisite beauty of Mu Koh Lanta, members of the local community set out to organise a thorough October cleanup of Koh Rok and the underwater surroundings of Koh Haa. Everyone involved agreed that the twin goals of establishing these locations as sustainable tourist attractions – and fostering communal pride in preserving these beloved environments – were handsomely met.

Pimalai Resort now operates a fleet of luxury speedboats to whisk visitors quickly and comfortably to spend some blissful moments at this glorious marine park.
